FoxTabs: another deadly line of code

Topics: Bug Information
Feb 13, 2013 at 7:35 AM
Trying to enter the following line into a PRG with FoxTabs running:
oUtil.trace('XR',[oFirm var type: ]+VARTYPE(This.oFirm))
As soon as I hit the parentheses following VARTYPE, VFP crashes. Happens every time. If I pause FoxTabs, enter the code, and restart FT, things are fine.

The conflict seems to arise when Intellisense kicks in under certain conditions.

Hi Stein,

This one has been evading me. I've had similar things happen to me as well, but when I finally get time to work on FoxTabs, I can't reproduce the issue. Here's what I did:
  1. I started vanilla FoxPro 9.0 SP2 (no other utilities loaded).
  2. I started FoxTabs
  3. MODI COMM
  4. I typed in the line of code above, but no crash.
Do you still get the crash if you follow those same steps? I think there is more to it. Maybe I need all the code, or there is another utility open, or something else. If you can help me repro, that will go a long way towards getting it fixed.

Thanks,

Joel

<div dir="ltr">Yes, I would certainly think you need to know what other utilities are running ... Thor? PEM Editror? FoxCodePlus? 3. Open a Form (Modify form test2)
  4. Now in Foxtabs Click on Options Arrow and click "Close All"

<div dir="ltr">Try running just FoxTabs, without using Thor. See if you get the same error. <div><br> </div> <div><br clear="all"> <div> <div dir="ltr">Jim Nelson<br> (805) 498-9195 (voice &#43; fax)<br> (720) 837-3536 (cell) <div><br> </div> <div> <p><span style="font-size:14pt; font-family:Calibri,sans-serif; color:rgb(31,73,125)"><img width="113" height="38" src="cid:image001.jpg@01CDDED8.888A7550" alt="Description: Description: LOGO-KONG_Shape_LG (5)"></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:10pt; font-family:Calibri,sans-serif; color:rgb(31,73,125)"><a href="http://www.kongcompany.com/" target="_blank" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)"><span style="color:blue">www.kongcompany.com</span></a></span></p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div>

This happens without Thor also.
  1. Start VFP9
  2. Start Foxtabs (DO C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\Thor\Tools\Apps\FoxTabs\FoxTabs.app)
  3. Open a form (modify form test2)
  4. Now in Foxtabs "Click options arrow and click Close All" or in Foxtabs RightClick on 'Form Designer - test2.scx' and Click Close All"
and VFP9 started blinking continuously, we can not do nothing only Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close the VFP9.

Well this is pretty strange.

I blanked everything out of my Config.fpw file so I am starting VFP with minimum overhead.
Then I did the following:

DO <path>\Foxtabs.app
MODI COMM
Typed in oUtil.trace('XR',[oFirm var type: ]+VARTYPE
As soon as I hit the paren key, it blew.

Tried this a couple of times, but then I noticed that I had a project window open, since VFP brings up my most recent project by default.

I closed the project window and was able to type the full line. So I opened the project and tried it again - still worked. Then I quit VFP, brought it back up, with the project open by default, and repeated the above steps - no problem this time.

So I put my startup scripts back in place. It now loads Thor, Web Connection, FoxTabs and my custom menu tab. It's also still opening that project by default. I opened a blank PRG and was able to type the line with no problems. But then I brought up the original PRG where the problem first showed up. Tried typing the line in there and it crashed again.

So it may have something to do with the size of the PRG - this one is just over 100K. If I have time later I could try some smaller files to see if there's a magic byte size.
